hey everyone. if you have been checking back to see my updates i am sorry i have been gone so long! i just got a new job which i am super excited about but keeps me SO busy. i am working in the fashion industry now and therefore have some parameters to what i can post. i will be posting everything on my regular blog now (outfits, how-to's, home ideas, etc.) so come on over and check everything out.

eventually i will be starting a new blog with a new name and look. i can't wait to share it with you! it is still under construction so stay tuned for that as well.

happy july 4th everyone! hope you have lots of fesitivies planned. july 4th is one of my favorite holidays after christmas. i love the sun, barbeques, family parties, and overall sparkle of the holiday. in honor of the day i figured i would wear a something a little festive. blue anchors, red stripes, and a splash of gold was about as much as i could do.

dave was nice enough to take a picture of my outfit yesterday at church. i was excited to find that this shirt matched the polka dots in my dress. i had worn a tank top under it but the straps are too long on me so it was incessantly falling down.

you can't really see my necklace but it is a monogrammed silver pendant with an "h" on it. i really like monogrammed things, especially when they are really simple. michael's has some monogrammed gift cards and trinkets for only $1 right now. they don't have any h's but they might have your initial, check it out!

can you believe it is already june 24th? i can't. time flies in the summer. i want to lay at the beach today, it is so, so nice out. i am about to leave my parents house to meet up with a friend who is moving down to the South soon. i am hoping we can go to chili's because they have really good chicken guacamole soup (sounds gross but it is delicious). this picture looks so poser it is ridiculous but i was in a hurry and couldn't figure out where to stand. have a good day!

where on earth have i been? well...life is somewhat interesting sometimes. and it isn't always easy to role with the punches. but thankfully patience is a virtue and it can take a life time to learn. i have an outfit post for you today and, although it isn't too pretty, it is fun. i will be making my regular updates more regulary now. hope you missed them a little bit.

last week i helped my family paint my great grandmother's house that is being rented. there were lots of nasty bugs and old things lying around. at many points i asked myself if it would be better just to tear down the whole garage and start over. until i realized there was no way i could build a new one. gotta love old houses, right?

although strange, this shirt is very detailed. it has 3D braids on each women and beautiful embroidery. my mom was generous enough to share her shirt with me so i could paint in it. i am sure goodwill thanked her for not sending it their way...

here is the whole messy bunch. we got a lot done though, and went to eat at a Chinese buffet, my favorite sub shop, and an awesome bagel place in the process, so it was worth it!

yes this is a bright color but it works, i told myself, since my hair is light and the pants are otherwise neurtral. i like how these sandals look in the picture. i don't think they look as good in real life. this shirt was the best deal ever $4.88. i got it at target while making a "necessary" stop at target to pick up a dress. i was on my way to maine when i realized i wasn't appropriately dressed for a graduation i was going to. i saw target, felt awful i had to buy a new dress (not!), and found this shirt and a dress. what can i say, i just love a good deal.

can you believe it is already june? i can't. everything is going by so quickly. do you have any fun summer plans? my cousin is getting married in july and so is dave's cousin so we will have a few weddings to go to (love that). i am hoping to get some r&r in with my family up at our family's lake house too. summer is just the best.

another thing i love are sales. these capris were 50% at j.crew outlet this weekend. i really love their cafe capri's because they are very comfortable. these were only $30 which i thought was pretty decent. i can dress them up or down. they only thing i have to get over is feeling like a 1970's wall paper. thats cool, right?

it's a lovely day out. i am excited for along weekend, how about you? do you do anything fun for memorial day? this weekend i am spending time with dave and his family. while he golfs i will be laying by the pool with my new book. can't get too much better than that.

i got this dress at marshall's the other day when i stopped in. it is so comfortable (that stretchy material you can smush into a ball) and doesn't need any pre-work. this is my second time wearing it in three days! i love the pattern.

this vintage blouse makes me want to go on a picnic. it isn't too static-y either. hope you all had a good weekend. mine was nice and tiring, in a good way. i am looking forward to things getting settled in my life. which might take a little while. i don't like the waiting/wondering period we all have to go through. it makes us rely more on God and less on ourselves, however, and i think that's the best thing to learn.

hurray it's friday! i love this little t-shirt i got at h&m. the puffy sleeves make me feel girly. my cousin has a few shirts like these, which look so cute on her, so i figured i would try them out. i am actually wearing the black sweater with it though, because it is still overcast and gloomy. my hair has been green all week from the chlorine in the pool. i washed it with baking soda and it somewhat worked. today i am going to pick up some shampoo for chlorine-green hair. and my hair is SO dry. does anyone have any at-home-remedies for dry hair?

this is my favorite print. it was called abstract cheetah on the bolt of fabric. my mom made this one too. i love the pill box collar. and these sandals are SO comfortable. you should get some at DSW. this was right outside our hotel. they probably thought i was nuts posing by myself but dave insisted he take a picture for my blog. he is a nice guy.

it's super humid out today! my camera kept fogging up. it is nice and warm though. i got a huge sunburn this weekend. we went kayaking all afternoon and rode around listening to country music in the pick-up. i felt like a country girl (for about 2 hours). we came back into civilization for a mystery dinner saturday night and relaxed after church on sunday. hope you had a good weekend too.

my cousin just got back from her spring break trip to hawaii. how awesome is that!? she let me borrow this dress that she took with her on the trip. i love it. of course it is freezing here still so i have to wear tights but thats ok. i feel summery today.

i heard a women in a meeting talking about how people from LA dress way nicer than us new englanders. she said she always feels like she walked out of l.l.bean when she goes to california on business. i think we should change that. the reason people get in a slump around here is because it is freezing. people in the south and on the west coast dress super snazzy though and i don't think we should have an excuse.

by far my favorite. it was worn here. it is amazing quality and makes me feel cool whenever i wear it. not sure why. and the pillbox collar is awesome. (please excuse the weird facial expression)

dave is going to the kentucky derby this week for a business trip and wanted to bring his camera so i might not be able to post photos. i am going to try and scrounge one up somewhere. until then, i will be posting older outfit photos.

love this color, even if it doesnt look good on me. something about crazy greens and yellows makes me happy. i got this dress for a steal at j.crew at the end of the season last year. i think it was $30. the only problem is the straps are too big for me so if i wear it without the sweater they always fall down. this is awkward when you are in the middle of a convo with an adult at a wedding (trust me i know).

actually, now that i think about it, i was wearing this dress when i fell down a full flight of stairs at my friends wedding. the best part was a couple i didn't know was standing where i landed. i was fine but boy was my pride hurt. i think i mumbled something about always falling and ran away. that was when i was 21.

i was out on business yesterday and wasn't able to post a photo. i am lucky i could get this one up today, we are so busy over here. i am looking forward to friday afternoon when some of the stress can fall off.

today my team had to dress like we were traveling for a company wide award show we are going too. i brought my straw fedora to wear and will be making some lei's for everyone. this dress was about as creative as i could get this morning. it is so comfortable and fits perfectly.

good morning everyone, it is monday, are you awake? i am not. i have a very busy week this week too. business trip today and tomorrow, and a whole bunch of other fun things going on. this weekend was very relaxing. i went thrift shopping with dave's mom and we found a bunch of treasures. i found a great black leather purse i just need to scrub the inside because it smells like mcdonald's fries. literally. gross.

this skirt is big for me but i really wanted to try it on before i put it up for sale. it's a very soft cotton and the little cheetah print is so cute.

happy friday! it is raining here again so i wore my hunter's. i had someone ask me recently if they were fashion boots and than said i look like i work on a farm. i assured him they are fashion boots. even if they are just glorified rubber. i made this belt last night and put it up for sale. what do you think? it reminds me of shabby chic. it's only $10.

i am starting to get the hang of this coat. it's taken me a while but it's working. not sure if this is the right belt yet but altogether it doesn't look as boxy and boyish as the first time. this is the most accessories i have worn with an outfit in a while. not sure how i feel about it. i usually like the motto less is more.

it was all about color yesterday. i was surprised how many compliments i got on my dress. it was so inexpensive. must have been the color. i love this necklace too. dave's mom gave it to me for inspiration. and the shoes...well believe it or not they are from walmart. i just took off the ties. they are super comfy. who knew you could find something so cute hanging on a rack for $9.

Five things I can't wait to wear for spring

introducting...Tania from What Would a Nerd Wear. check out her blog and daily style updates. she always knows how to take casual to the next level. i love how she layers things. every outfit looks different in a fabulous way.

Spring and much warmer temperatures are just around the bend now, and I can't wait to dig into my warmer weather clothes which have been hibernating in my closet all these cold months! But many months of sweaters, scarves, and coats has given me lots of time to brainstorm about what I'll slip into when the mercury rises, so here are five of the things I've been dreaming about wearing all winter long...

1. stripes

Always a classic, striped tees are one of my favorite pieces for spring. Instead of hiding under layers of sweaters and coats, my striped tees will be front and center once it gets warm! I plan on mixing them with lots of understated florals, wearing them with skinny blank pants, over tank dresses, and with jeans and flats. And actually, until I took this picture, I didn't actually know how many striped tops I had in my closet--I might have to volunteer myself for Hoarders soon!

2. chambray

I know Hillary is also a fan of chambray, but I can't get enough of it right now! My $10 chambray shirt from Old Navy has been my recent go-to piece. It feels like pajamas, matches with anything (except denim...I don't think I'm jumping on the denim-on-denim trend just yet), and is going to look great to toughen up florals or linen.

3. florals

I keep daydreaming about these floral patterned tee shirts I had from the Gap in 1998, and wishing I'd held onto them, because these intricate, beautiful floral patterns are all over the place. I scored a few pieces from Liberty of London for Target, but mostly in the kids' section, where the items seemed more well-constructed, the cloth was thicker, and the cuts were cuter (an XL skirt for girls fits me perfectly at the waist!). I plan to live in floral skirts and plain tees during the summer, and in the spring, I'll dress them up with button-ups, boots and scarves.

4. tank dresses

Completely comfortable, easy, and flattering, tank dresses are a basic that I've dragged through the end of winter and into spring. They are a great simple piece to highlight exciting jewelry or accessories, and they also layer well under (striped?) tees, sweaters, and scarves.

5. strappy sandals

this is my mom and i. i loved this dress from jcrew so we found a pattern and my mom made it. it's almost exactly the same but i think mine is much better. isn't she amazing?

i got these shoes for some weddings i was in. they look horribly dirty here for some reason but they didn't in real life.

good morning! it is beautiful out. this weekend was so nice and sunny. we had a water balloon fight yesterday (dave soaked me) and sat outside all afternoon. i hope you had a good Easter. i am excited khaki's are in for spring. they are so comfortable. my outfit is simple today, right down to my hair-do. i am glad i can put my hair up now though.

i hope you don't get grossed out by feet. this is a little too close up for me, sorry about that. i actually have a foot condition where my feet are always red or purple because of bad circulation. it's quite embarrassing. especially when people say, "wow, look how red your feet are" every time i have sandals on.

i look upset here but it's just because the sun was so bright. i woke up this morning from a terrible dream. i hate those. but it is so nice to wake up and realize you are in a warm bed and the dream wasn't true.

i got a not so nice email from someone who said i dress like a mannequin. go figure. that wasn't a nice thing to wake up to. they also said i should quit while i am ahead. i don't think i will.

i really love this belt. it always makes me feel, hmm...not sure of the word. fancy? i don't know. but the pearls are so pretty and the braiding is so in for this season. it's a great way to make an outfit without doing too much. these tights help too. they are they ones i bought in a rush on sunday (story from yesterday).

i look sort of mad in this outfit today but i promise i am not. i saw a bunch of girls wearing leather jackets this weekend and i wanted to pull mine out.

i bought this dress on sunday morning. i was having issues with my church outfit (lets just say wind doesnt go well with wrap dresses) and i was all wrinkley. so i ran to target right before church just to grab some tights, or so i told my mom. once i got there i immediately headed for the clothes section and tried my hardest to talk myself out of buying something. it didnt work. i walked out with this dress and some tights, changed in the car, and rushed back to church. when my mom saw me sitting in the pew she laughed and shook her head. she knows i always find an excuse to buy a dress. who doesn't? (you don't have to answer this question)

monday’s are not easy to wake up for. especially when you had a perfect weekend. i am tired and was so glad when i realized i hadn’t worn this shirt dress in a long time because it took me two seconds to make an outfit. do you have some outfits that you pull on when you can’t think of anything else? i always wear this shirt dress with skinny pants and this necklace. it’s so easy.

this lion king umbrella has a good story behind it. in my junior year of college i interviewed at Fox News for a PR job. I got lost on my way there and got soaked running into the building. it was altogether a messy interview, but it went well. i got to see the entire studio and how they prepare for news stories etc. it was really cool. on my way out the receptionist noticed me hesitate at the door and asked if i would like an umbrella. i told her i would be ok but she insisted and pulled out this umbrella from a back closet. she said they had tons so i “had” to take it. 3 years later i am glad i did. having a yellow umbrella is always necessary.

ps. if anyone is wondering, I was offered the job but didn’t take it. they didn’t pay. instead, i found a job in a design studio working on home interior products for martha stewart and jaclyn smith (!!). and it paid.

for some reason in this picture my hair looks very ratty. but its not, it's just curly.

good morning! i stayed up late last night working on this flower and i am very glad i did. it's the first one i have made that i actually liked. i had to go to walmart to get the fabric (see below if you want to read about that craziness) and then ransacked my craft box for the rest.

so...the walmart story. i went to walmart to find some chiffon fabric since joann's was far away. when my cousin and i finally found the fabric/craft department, there was noone there and it was a mess. i had to crawl through the piles of fabric to find the non-stiff (cheap) chiffon (not easy to do) and when i was satisfied, brought my purchases to the cutting table. as to be expected there was noone there so we waited for about 5 minutes. finally, i picked up the scissors and cut the yardage myself. a women came to the table and told us an attendant was coming so we waited for "her" to ring us up. another 5 minutes went by. i decided i didn't want to wait any longer so i scanned my own items, printed out the receipts, and did the same for the lady waiting with us. all in all, i think i deserved this fabric for free. i told my cousin, "i'm a game coordinator by day and walmart fabric cutter by night, don't mess with me."

i just got the shirt i am wearing from ann taylor last night and i couldn't figure out what to wear over/with it. i have the perfect skirt but it has to go to the dry cleaners. i opted for this coat since i haven't it in a long time and some khaki's. someone just told me i look like i am going riding. i think thats a compliment. i love horseback riding inspired clothing (western and equestrian).

my camera, purse, bracelet, movie, and wallet were stolen out of my car last night while i was in the gym. i came back to broken glass and no money. it was really scary and a huge hassel. thankfully there was a police man that came by right after (perfect timing...) so i could file the report right away. whoever stole my purse got some very nice things.

i will be using a back up camera so check in around noon my time.

it is heart day on Sunday but we are wearing red at work today. i pulled out my fancy shoes just for the occasion. i got a free chocolate covered strawberry from the cafeteria. it was delicious.

i just got out of a meeting that started at 8 am. i am exhausted. i couldn't figure out what to wear today so i ended up with this. i love this shirt. i just got it and i have worn it almost every day since. i don't know how i feel about the green sweater. i do like the tights though. very comfortable. you should get some.

it snowed last night. i didn't want to get out of bed because i knew i would have to get all the snow off my car. therefore, i didnt wear anything cute today. i do love the boots though. i got them for $8 at savers and found them online for $150. now thats what i call a good deal.

i love this skirt. if it was made of tulle it would be even better. i probably wouldnt be able to wear it to work though. it is still cold here. but it is staying lighter later and that makes me happy.
